Hi guys, i've run into some strange problem that i can't resolve.
I have 2 computers, both running win2000. On one of them was 1.01 version. I wanted to upgrade to XviD-1.0.3-20122004.exe version.
I downloaded and installed it (or course i closed any progs that could use xvid).Installation was sucessful, i.e no errors. But notheing happened In VDM Xvid "about" it said that it was same old 1.01 version. Some restarts didnt' help either. So than i went to winnt/system32 directory and manually deleted these files:
xvidcore.dll
xvidvwf.dll
xvid.ax
xvid_dshow.ax
- anything i could find related to Xvid.
Than i installed 1.0.3-20122004 version again and it worked VDM found it and i could use it.

Unfortunately on my second win2000 computer it didnt' work that way, There was some very old xvid version (7-8month year old). First, i installed 20.10.2004 version on top but it resulted in same problem as on prev. computer - version didnt' change. Than i Manually deleted the abovementioned files, and tried to install the 20.10.2004 version - But Xvid disappered completely from Codec's list in VDM!!!!
I tried reinstalling/uninstalling this and any other versions - but with zero result - no any Xvid in codec's window. I even try to cope all those 4 files from working computer - but it didn't help either (files were there already).
So my question is simple, how do i install latest (or at least any ) xvid version so VDM and other progs can find it in the codec's list.
Do i have to dig up the registry? Waht are your suggestions?
I'm dying to try new xvid but i can't:(

You gotta have the latest service pack 4 installed for your Win2k,
otherwise try to wipe out everything and install WinXP SP2.
This should probably solve the problem ;)

Yes, i have Sp4,

otherwise try to wipe out everything and install WinXP SP2.
This should probably solve the problem
My personal opinion: win2000 is better than WinXP
But it doesn't matter. I'm sure there is simplier solution.
Does anybody know how do i make some codec (or it's .dll) to appear in system's codec list. I tried registering all XVid*.dll with regsvr32 but to no avail.
Any more suggestions?

if anything you would want to regsvr32 the xvid.ax, but afaik that will register xvid to direct show only (not VFW as used in virtualdub(mod)).

Well an old version would point to xvid.dll for the vidc entry where as a new version would point to xvidvfw.dll.

Try my installer or just download the 7z file and do it manually.
