Problem with capturing on Windows XP

Hello there! (After a long break :D)
I've got a problem with my PixelView PlayTV PRO card. I've just read the capturing guide and wanted to do some magic on my TV signal (the new methods of deinterlacing)...I'm starting VirtualDubMod, selecting Capture AVI...and :

The window actually means "The application VirtualDubMod has made an illegal operation and will be shut down"

Well, so i got iuVCR started...and guess what happened! The program started, but ~5 seconds after starting...

That's the same window that popped up when I tried to capture with VirtualDubMod. And the window under the blue text :

I don't get it at all. I mean, I don't know where the error can be. It's definetely not the DirectX bug, because my version is 9.0c - not affected by the "capturing disabled" bug.
Oh BTW, I'm using normal Brooktree drivers, non-btwincap

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My first guess would still be a driver problem. Try either the BTWincap drivers or the iulabs generic drivers.

Hey, thanks for the advice, but it didn't help at all...after installing BTWinCap, VirtualDubMod (in the "Capture AVI" window) shows the video, but when I try to capture it, the application just returns some error (unfortunately I hadn't taken a screenshot), and iuVCR refuses to work, giving an error "EAccessViolation" while loading.
OK, so I installed the iulab tweaked drivers, and the situation returned to the one I had described in my first post - everything's the same.

What's wrong? Any ideas?

As a start, try virtualVCR or Amcap. Those are the 'purest' directshow capturing applications and a good point to start with troubleshooting. You might have to enable smartTee for preview in virtualVCR to see something. Follow the instructions in chapter 6.3 of the capture guide for that.

It could be a zillion things unfortunatly. To begin, see if you have the latest chipset drivers installed (via hyperion, Intel infinstenu.exe, nvidia nforce drivers or whatever MB chipset you have) and make sure your soundcard drivers are the latest.

Another thing is that the BTWincap installer sometimes fails to remove the previous driver leaving you with two device drivers fighting for the same device and an unstable system. Look in the registry under

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services

and see if you have more than one entry referring to a BT878 capture device. If so, delete the ones not belonging to the driver you have installed.

The situation is slightly better by now. The tweaked iulab drivers didn't want to work at all with VirtualVCR/Amcap, so I installed the BTWinCap drivers, and they work fine, but only with VirtualVCR and Amcap. I'd prefer to use iuVCR, because I've got my whole program list there. When I try to run it now, it just returns "EAccessViolation" error and stops.

Any hope of turning iuVCR back working?

ok, so basic directshow capturing is working now. BTWincap drivers are the most mature available for the BT878, so that is not too bad.

That vdub/vdubmod has problems is as expected. These still use VFW for capturing which is unreliable at best under XP. Do a forum search to see what I mean.

So you now have a iuVCR problem, not a capturing problem left. iuVCR however is a directshow app, and should also work now. I assume you have run through all the tabs and assured that there are no strange colorformats or resolutions set for either preview or capture format? And you did enable smarttee?

I cannot help you further, since I don't use iuVCR. Maybe someone else?
