View Full Version : Correct aspect ratio in AutoGK?

I have a MPEG2 file and it's 720x480 anamorphic. But when I do a preview in AutoGK it resizes it 640x480 and not 640x352. I cannot see any options to change the aspect ratio. I presume if I was ripping a DVD AutoGK would pull that info from the VOB's etc but this is just a plain old captured MPEG2 stream.

What does DGIndex says if you open file in there? 4:3 or 16:9? I bet 4:3 - that's why AutoGK resizes it to 640x480. See FAQ Q 6.10 (you gotta read it first - its the second question you're asking that is covered there).

Just read the FAQ. What happened to one click backup? There should just be an option in AutoGK 'Force to 16:9'. Why does it have to rely on a d2v file? I just want to load the MPG file and get on with it.

And nobody even fixed DVD2AVI (Which I realise got renamed to DGindex blah whatever) to do the resize properly? The source code has been out there since forever!

Sigh...

I take it that you volunteer to fix DGIndex? Let me know - I'd be happy to use corrected version in AutoGK.

While it's true I would love to fix it myself if I had any coding talent and also whilst it's true I realise it's all done for free. I am quite surprised that nobody has tackled it since it seems like it's such an essential tool for most MPEG2 to AVI conversions. But anyhow. Gknot itself used to have a resizing option regardless of whether the D2V was set to the correct size or not. This was then used to generate an AVS which was then used to encode in VirtualDub/Nandub etc. Why cannot this be put into AutoGK? In other words what I am saying is why is there only an option in AutoGK to resize the width and not the height?

Actually wouldn't all it take is to script it so that if you tick a box saying 'Force 16:9' or something in option it just changes the line in the D2V file from 4:3 to 16:9 after it's done it's DGindex'ing? Seems like it would be a straight forward thing to do.

As originally AutoGK worked only with DVDs (that very rarely have this AR problem) there was no need for such option. As I see recently there's been more and more AR issues regarding mpeg2 files and captures I'll think about possible solutions.
