Davelasker has made a new tool for AAC files. It works in the same way as mp3Gain (http://mp3gain.sourceforge.net/).

aacgain is a modification to Glen Sawyer's excellent mp3gain program. It supports AAC (mp4/m4a/QuickTime) audio files in addtion to mp3 files.

I am releasing it in source code only
a) to avoid any MPEG royalty issues, and
b) to ensure that early users have the knowledge to fix whatever bugs they find smile.gif

You can download the source code from http://altosdesign.com/aacgain/ Source code is for a Windows command line application. Contact me if you want to help make aacgain multi-platform or otherwise contribute to its development.

If somebody can provide a short compile, it will be great....;)

Cool. Any word on how this works? I'm assuming it's lossless - does it use a method that will be supported in players easily?

Thanks celtic_druid

You seem mad keen about using 7-zip (http://www.7-zip.org/). Any particular reason why?

Cheers

@SMD: Probably because it's ace and more people should have/use it :D

Hi Nic,

I've just installed the new beta... and after visiting the settings under "Tools/Options" I have to agree... And it's free!

Cheers

Exactly, because it is ace. Since when has any0ne neeed another reason for doing anything?

I have vegemite on my toast because it is ace. I eat meat pies for lunch because they are ace and I was just out drinking VB and Calton Draught because they are ace.

As I said in the MPC thread, if someone suggests something that works better, then I will use it otherwise you can recommend/say what you want and it won't make any diffence. Winrar supports unpacking 7-zip files anyway so I reallly can't see any issues.

Err, anyway back on topic, the build works? Does what it is supposed to? Crashes? Killed your PC?

Both mp3gain and aacgain work by altering the "global_gain" field of each audio sample. Each increment or decrement of global_gain alters the sound level by 1.5dB.
