I am trying to convert camcorder footage from a DVD camcorder to premiere. I've had luck converting with AVS, VirtualDub, & DVD2AVI. what I do is...create an d2v, load up the following AVS

LoadPlugin("z:\mpeg2dec.dll")
mpeg2source("G:\StorageLabs TinyUDF Volume\VIDEO_TS\rehearsal.d2v")

the load that AVS in VirtualDub and save the uncompressed AVI. Problem is, the drive space it takes up is out of control!!! I've also tried Huffy and that's a little better. What's the best way to do this? ALSO, with this way, I've not been able to keep the sound. Any clue on what I should do?

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

thanks ahead of time

How big are the files you are creating say for about an hours worth of footage?

they were immense, like 40 gigs. what I ended up doing was encoding with VirtualDub to the Canopus DV codec. That keeps the hours worth of footage at about 9GB, def more manageable. I had to turn the AC3 into a wav and load that wav in virtualdub so that it's muxed into the resulting AVI. Is this the best way?
btw, huffyuv wasn't much better. i also tried picvideo, but the resulting video wouldn't show up correctly in my timeline.

That happend to me when I used VDUB to create AVIs from DV. Can the camcorder output to DV? or can it only output an mpeg2 stream?

You could use the avs plugin to edit the avs files directly in premiere.

it outputs a DVD-R. It's one of those newer Sony cameras. I will try that AVS input plug-in....thanks!
