I been trying my best to do this successfully with CCE. I can do the video fine but the audio is what always bothers me. I read to keep sync you should use dvd2avi to make a d2v project file and use the audio it demuxed from the dvb mpeg. Well I tried this and no matter how much I encode the audio it never ever matches up with the video. Some people have converted dvb to dvd without all these problems and have perfect sync. The original file is perfectly in sync with no errors. I know about the method of using dvdpatcher to patch the dvb's then authoring, but my player cannot handle this kinda of "XDVD", hence the need for re-encoding. Any tips or ideas that would help with the audio being out of sync after re-encoding ? thanks

demux with ProjectX and then encode the video.
But I personally do not encode and simply author with IfoEdit.
A simple demux of many dvb streams result in audio sync problems.
I found the software from Womble very effective.

I wouldn't re-encode the whole video. It's just a few GOPs that are too long, so only these few GOPs need to be re-encoded.
Well, that is assuming the resolution is DVD compliant. If the resolution is not DVD compliant, then you do need to either patch or re-encode.

Now, if the resolution is ok, only some GOPs are too long, do this:
You need the freeware MPEG cutting tool Cuttermaran (http://www.cuttermaran.de/frameset.htm) and a supported Encoder. I don't know if CCE is supported. If not, try TMPGEnc (www.tmpgenc.net) or CuttyEnc (http://www.psimarron.net/Projects/DVD/CuttyEnc/). I use Cuttermaran with TMPGEnc and it works great. Takes only about 1 minute or 2, depending on how many GOPs need to be re-encoded, and the rest remains untouched, original as it came in the transport stream.

In Cuttermaran you need to cut the video and then, in the box that appears, check "make DVD compliant (reencoding modus only)" in order to make the MPEG-2 DVD compliant.

In order to use Cuttermaran you first have to demux with ProjectX.
If you can demux the dvb stream successfully with ProjectX then you are home free and there are several cutting tools available.
But if you are located in USA you might end up with a dvb stream full of overseized GOPs.
ProjectX will decimate that video beyond recognition.
Unless it has already been done DVB.Matt is planning to make a future version of ProjectX that will correctly demux streams with such overseized GOPs.

It turns out that the patched header trick didn't work because I was testing it out using a dvd-rw but when I burned to a dvd-r it worked perfectly. I used tmpgenc dvd author to edit out the commercials and it was still in sync. thanks to everyone for the help .

I'm having a similar problem. Can you post step-by-step what you're doing and what tools you're using. Nothing too detailed, but just so I can try and duplicate your success.

Well what ya do is you take the dvb files ( mine are mpeg2 544x480) then you open up dvdpatcher then patch the dvb files to 720 x 480 (if you're using ntsc) and patch the bitrate to 8mbps.Then leave dvdpatcher open don't close it out yet. Then load the dvb files into tmpgenc dvd author, edit out commercials add menu's etc. Then repatch the dvb files to 544x480 or the original size or else your thumbnails will be messed up. Then author the dvd then burn. I was having problems with playback on a dvd-rw but on a dvd-r works fine and dandy. I have an apex 660a dvd player. most cheap players that play vcd, svcd, anything else can handle these. hope this helps.
