mkv file extensions ???

Howdy Guys.

I have downloaded a file off the net that has this extension attached to it:- Episode.1.DVDRip-XviD.OPT!V!D.mkv.

It basically looks like a text file. I guessing I have to use some sort of conversion tool to make it into a playable format. The file is in the vacinity of 717,000 KB's in size .

Can someone tell me what to do with this
