hey
Ive converted a video (xvid) to DVD, and after encoding the video the picture comes up all screwy in windows media player and powerdvd 6 when i tried to play, it comes out as multi-colured blocks with the old few normal blocks.
Here my CCE SP settings, (there are so many new stuff and features in cce 2.7 compared to cce 2.6!)
http://img144.exs.cx/img144/4995/set1ac.jpg
(above, do u know why it does pulldown automatically, anyway of disabling it? cause i prefer to do it with another tool)
http://img144.exs.cx/img144/1020/set23qk.jpg

So i was wonderin if any of my settings are incorret and is the cause for the screwey video the please post!

fernandose, may I ask why you would wish to transcode a DVD to Xvid, only in order to turn it back into MPEG2 DVD format again?
MPEG compression is a very lossy process and you are going to experience significantly degraded image quality by transcoding your source twice.
If you need to make a DVDR backup, then I suggest you directly backup the original MPEG2 DVD source, perhaps using DVD Shrink or the like.
Note that if you do not own the DVD, then you're not eligible to do what you're trying to do and we have to cut it off right here. And that includes further questions down the line and attempts by others to help. Please read Rule 6 (http://forum.doom9.org/forum-rules.htm) if you require any further clarification on this.
Regards,
Arky.

Ok, Thanks for pointing out that last comment Arky, but the video called 'troy' is a commerical trailer obtained from divx-digest.com or from joblo.com (one if its links) a couple of weeks ago.
I am only trying to understand how to put a trailer (xvid) into dvd format so i can mess around and learn how this works.

Arky, there's an avi->DVD guide on the main doom9 site, so why should it be considered a questionable topic to discuss? And unless I'm mistaken it's the policy of this place to give users the benefit of the doubt, unless they provide specific evidence to the contrary - such as an admission that they downloaded it, or a filename consistent with a "dodgy" copy. Making "stupid backup decisions" hardly falls into this category. Otherwise there wouldn't be a relevant doom9.org guide in the first place, would there? My understanding is that the rules are about pretecting the legality of this place, rather than its moral purity (for want of a better term).
Having said all that, the problem here is due to a badly cracked copy of CCE.

lol, that could be the problem but not of that nature. I used edcee with it, but it came up with a warning saying that it was incompatible with newer versions, but i forced it to work...i know stupidity and arragance dont mix well.
thanks Matt for your help and comments.

I hear what you're saying, Matthew - you will note that I actually DID give fernandose the benefit of the doubt - look again, and there is very clearly an "if" in my post. I have not issued a strike. I did also discuss this thread with some colleagues - rest assured that it was not simply a knee-jerk reaction. In the remarks he made in his second post, fernandose himself outlined the reason why one might draw a less favourable conclusion. I hope each of you appreciates the reason why we mods have to be so careful with what is posted - there's no dictatorship here; no 'witch hunt'; no stifling of discussion - it's only those potential little elements of such posts that we need to be mindful of, for the greater good of the board. We're really all on the same side, here. Thanks for understanding.
Kind regards,
Arky.

Arky,
i am very pleased that you take great care in keeping the forums clean of people trying to *bad* things, and it does show how serously you take your posistion as a moderator.i did realise that you did give the benifit of the doubt and i am thankful for that.
Just to ressaure you, i have provided a link to the website where i got trailer from (it might have changed because it was trailer of the week).

@Arky, sorry I probably came on a touch too strong, and I do generally love your posts. It's just that there are plenty of posts about avi->SVCD/DVD conversion in this forum and others, and it seemed like you were trying to "look behind the vail", so to speak, when this post was no different from the many other avi2DVD posts left alone (or indeed answered by mods). There was no evidence to suggest that the "troy.avs", if the full movie, was anything other than a personal rip from a DVD he owns. Even if he did forget to blur the dodgy gspot title in his other thread ;)
When some guy without much idea about authoring at all, say, asks about how to do something in Scenarist (maybe even Maestro in the same post), he is never quizzed about whether his copy is legitimate, even though the "I think something fishy is going on here" factor is no less than with someone who wants to convert what seems to be a movie avi. I'm quite anal retentive like that :P Then again I suppose the MPAA has a very itchy trigger finger :(
Anyway my point was about consistency as much as anything else :/
@fernandose, using eclcce led to your image corruption, how odd :)

i have had similar problems encoding avs files in the trial versions of cce sp (2.70.01.03 and 2.70.01.04) without any patches or cracks. i have since gone back to using version 2.66.01.07 because of this.
i would suggest that you verify this problem is only when you are using eclcce, because i suspect it might not be related to eclcce at all.

Chances are that if he forced eclcce (that is only compatible with 2.66/2.67) to work with 2.70. That is the problem. Maybe by christmas we will get the new eclcce.

@burgerpardis - are you sure that is the problem? because i was not using eclcce at all and had the same garbled m2v files with the new trial version of cce.

Newer CCE versions check themselves within it's memory for corruption. If they're corrupted, the image appears all garbled.
Probably that's why EclCCE made that happen.

really.. that's strange.. i did the same thing, encode an xvid trailer to mpeg2 using 2.70 dvd profile and got the same garbald image (pink blocks all over the place).
i didn't use anything,just cce 2.70 and avisynth 2.5

with CCE SP v2.70.01.05 this seems to be fixed. i would suggest you try this release and see if your encodes are no longer garbled.
[EDIT]
im not saying anything for eclcce as i do not use that tool, but for the trial version it no longer encodes a garbled image for me.

Did someone try the Robshot-Method on the new version already? I tried it but its kinda weird behaviour in bit allocation after the VAF-creation. The ABR cant be changed in the window itself. In the main window you can do it but in the bit allocation window it always turns back on the value set in the main dialog before :(
EDIT: i am talking about CCE 2.70.01.05

My problems are fixed with CCE SP v2.70.01.05 ,the 03 version was causing problems

Note, unless you modify the EclCCE binaries, it will absolutely NOT interfere with any unsupported versions of CCE. It will exit and CCE will run completely unaffected. I must emphasize that EclCCE is NOT a crack and does no "in-memory corruption" of CCE.

im pretty sure its due to the fact you have '23.976' selected, and 'for DVD' ticked.

I agree with Enf. When we load source with 23.976 or 24 fps and select "For DVD" CCE automaticly aply Pulldown. If you don't want Pulldown simply deselect "For DVD" and then deselect Pulldown.

you can try using my templates, I added 4 and 29 matrices, the cce templates are still available as with a default install. my templates are based off the doom9 guides for 2.67 and are for use with avs scripts. meaning you need to apply your own pulldown. I have templates for dvd progressive/interlaced & svcd progressive/interlaced. after loading them you may want to edit what matrices I use with my templates, since they are my personal pref. also you may want to adjust the vc and the number of passes.

so if what kolak and enf are suggesting is correct, there is no need to apply pulldown.exe to my m2v file after encoding my 23.976 avs file with "dvd complian" checked. however, i always use pulldown.exe before muxing/authoring and pulldown.exe always identifies the stream as being flagged 23.976. this suggests to me that cce is not doing pulldown correctly or not doing it at all.
plus, when i dont do the pulldown.exe step, muxman complains.
tell me if i am doing an unnecessary step here.
