Greetings and a Querry

I'm having troubles with Xine on Linux. I've upgraded to Mandrake 10.0 unfortunately it doesn't seem to be all that stable with the installed version. Things go worse from here, because libxine etc is only provided in binary form in the CVS version. I have yet to find the right xine-ui and library version set to work without have decoder troubles. So the real question is.

Is there a STABLE binary distribution RPM or otherwise that I can use under mandlebrake.. err Mandrake. I would like to just be able to view the stuff I'm compressing with OGM.

I do have a problem as well, I think Xine kills the ALSA subsystem on ocassion because Xine decides it doesn't have a sound card. Anyway to beat the thing back into operating or is rebooting (anoying) the only solution? It's kind of frustrating. All right it's not KIND of frustrating but you get the point.

For those having trouble with Xine, here is a partial solution be sure to grab the ui interface after it's patched. Since no one keeps a binary that's a stable copy this seems to be the only way. The recent patch to the user interface fixes a few of my issues, it also seems to make the decoding much more stable (even if it's slightly messed up it doesn't loose sync entirely as easily on an OGM stream of data).

It seems there is some sort of trouble with B and P images being applied properly by the UI.

I'm not sure I like the idea of having to compile a stable release each time as it might take an hour then I'll still be making an RPM to install (as I don't want it instead in /usr/local like most .configure scripts do .. it's OK but it can lead to anoyances).
