I have headphones and a 7.1 sound card.
Is there a way I can hear surround sound in the headphones.
The headphones have one cable so I connect it to Front Output in the sound card but this way I have only stereo sound.

There is no way to hear true 7.1 sound with headphones, or anything more than 2.1. As E-Male mentioned several programs have virtual surround downmixes available, that downmix surround sound into a stereo signal that simulates surround sound.

Actually, there are a couple of manufacturers who have started selling true surround headphones with six actual speakers. I don't know how good they are, but a quick google produced several reviews, including the following:

Cool stuff Steve, thanks for the link :).
I'm skeptical of how effective the surround effects are considering what little physical separation exists between the drivers.
Although I'd be very interested to hear from someone who's tried these out.

It will be head filling, not room filling.
Nothing like the real thing at 500 watts.
