What is the format of the output files? WMA, AVI, MPG?

WMV

Why did you decide on WMV? I think that mpeg4 is much better for playing in set top dvd player. I have a JVC XV-NP10S that plays almost anything I throw at it. Just my 2 cents

It was my first attempt at it, I didn't know I could save it as anything else in Windows Movie Maker.

i actually don't think you can, which imho would be a very good reason not to use it.

if you do want to though - there's a guide on how you can convert wmv to a more useable forum. it will require some reading in other guides too, but will definitely get you started on what to do with those files!

There are so many different players that support different formats. If you want to create a disc that will play on 'any' settop player you will have to create video (dvd) so mpeg2 format compiled to vobs that is compatible with the dvd standard.

There are lots of guides on format conversion available, but I would suggest starting of the right way. So encoding to mpeg2 and compiling/authoring using a good dvd package. Dvdlab would be a good starting point to get started in an easy way (but of course there are more).
