When backing up a movie and using a program such as DVD shrink, what quality or compression percentages are acceptable. At what percentage do you start to notice a difference in video & sound quality?

thanks

First of all, Audio is not touched in these programs unless you remove a stream completely. Second, you usually only compress a movie to 50~70% of it's original size, which is usually not noticeable. Long movies without any extras (including extra audio tracks) are the only ones that will hit the lower percentage and in those cases you may notice a minor degradation of the movie. It's not really a big deal, but if you hit one that you think wasn't OK, try splitting it instead.

Thank you. My instict was to hit 60% or better so I guess I'm on the right track.

Thanks again.

i personally never go below 70%, but that's just me. But I go through the hassle of actually using CCE and Scenarist for backing up if i find the time to do so.

anyway, doing mainly movie only backups, with 1,2 or a max of 3 audio tracks, no menus, no extras whatsoever.
