Low Sound Volume in XVID / DIVX

Dear All,

can anyone tell me first why on some XVID / DIVX the sound quality is so low I have to turn the volume on my headphones up to maximum just to get anywhere near acceptable volume ?

Also is there a really simple to use program that can improve this ?
By simple I mean literally load up the avi click the increase volume button by 100% or something then click the "do it" button..

Or anything else that's straight forward to use....

Use a recent ffdshow to decode your audio.

In the system tray whilst watching the vid, right click on the FFDshow audio icon and select "Volume", then increase to your heart's content :)

thanx bog, that's fine for playback, but I want to convert to DVD and watch on a TV...I'm guessing I need to re-encode the avi with a volume increased soundtrack but I've no real idea how to go about it...

XviD is purely a video codec... Any audio issues have nothing to do with it.

Do the files happen to use AC3 audio? If so then I suggest that you simply re-use it when converting to DVD. Otherwise whilst frameserving with AVISynth you could use Amplify(), AmplifydB() or Normalize().
