Nist (National Institute for Standards and Technology) has made a report over tested storage stability of recordable CD-R and DVD-media.
A recordable CD or DVD is made up of two vital parts: a storage layer (dye), where the laser burns marks that are read, and a reflection layer (behind the dye layer).
The type of Cd that holds up best uses "phtalocyanin" (colorless dye) and a reflection layer of both gold and silver. The two other storage layers used on recordable CD-media is azo and cyanin, both blue. Depending on the reflection layer, these two can also be interpreted as green.
For DVD's, one of the three disctypes managed much better than the other two, with insignificant changes from both light and temperature/moisture.
For DVD-media, there's no information about the dye like on CD-media. The scientists on NIST believes that all discs uses cyanine, but that the manufacturers also makes their own modifications.
