Is there a way to have your screen saver play a dvd file?

Yes. If DVDs can be played via directshow. And directshow media playing screensaver exist. Which they do. Then yes. But then the question why limit yourself to DVD files? Why not convert them to MPEG4 files and have more of em? :D

Isn't it posible to make a screensaver by just changing the extension form .exe to .scr? I havn't tried since win98.

If it works you could use mplayer classic and change the all keybindings to close the program.
