Is there a simple tool I can use to chop up a DIVX .avi into multiple segments (i.e. multiple .avi files)?

Hi-

You'll probably want to do this with Virtual Dub Mod (http://www.doom9.org/vdubmod-procedures.htm).

Still wishing there was something simpler akin to mp3trim.

See if http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/SupportUtils/avisplit.zip meets your needs, then.

I gotta tell ya, plain editing couldn't be much simpler than with Vdub. Open the file, set video to direct stream copy (audio already will be), use the yellow keyframe buttons to move back or forward and snip with trim buttons. Obviously you pull the navigator bar to get within range and the use the keyframe buttons for precision. The part that turns blue is what the file will consist of. If you want to cut multiple parts, after you go to the save as AVI dialog under the file menu check the box to not run the job now. When you have all your cuts set how you want go to file/job control and click start. I am no guru and I do this all the time for TV shows I've captured. I then append them back together for a nice commercial free show. The advance by keyframe feature is nice because it ensures that the A/V will be in sync.
