This decision was before my time, although I do understand it's very difficult to successfully get a product out the door on very loosely defined standards. Even as loose as the standard is now for the DivX Certified Profiles (we have no way of ensuring everybody uses similar settings... so lets just think of them as strict guidelines), it's better than what it is at worst case scenario. Shipping products that do the job are important. You're all smart enough to know what that leads to without me having to sound all evil and corporate =]
