I was wondering if there is a simple way to backup an entire DVD with menus and extras but for the main movie just one format (full screen vs. wide screen). I figure that way most of the DVD9 movies that I have will fit on a single DVD5. The reason I like to back up many of the extras is because my son likes to view the extras.

I assume you are talking about DVDs with both a widescreen and full screen version on 1 disc?
For free, check out the VOBedit thread in the IFO/VOB editing sub-forum. You can use it to blank out the version you don't want.
For some $, but a nicer interface and a few more features, try DVD Remake to do the same thing.
If you want to make it a little more user friendly you can follow the guide by 2COOL in the same forum to skip over the 'choose a version' menu so it just picks the right one automatically.

Given today's "technology", the best freeware out there for this is, IMHO, PgcEdit. Enhancements are coming out almost weekly, too.
Big threads in IFO/VOB Editors there for any questions.
