OK, I searched old threads for this and there were some on similar issue but no final answers. Basically what I want to do is rip the 5.1 AC3 stream from a PAL movie, pitch shift it to compensate for the speed-up, then reencode it to AC3 and mux it back with the video.
I can convert the AC3 stream to wav with BeSweet, pitch shift, and then reencode them with Soft Encoder, which is what I have done, but what settings should I really use? Should I apply DC High-pass filter/Bandwidth low-pass filter/LFE low-pass filter again, or should I just leave them?
First I tried to simply pitch shift the six separate mono-wavs, and then encode them to AC3, but when I did that there were some places, specifically where there was music with vocals, that had problems. In the original stream the left/right channels worked in phase(?) to create the illusion that the vocals came from between the two speakers, however when pitch shifting the tracks separately and encoding to AC3, the vocals were clearly heard from the left and from the right, making for a not so pleasant effect.
After some messing around I figured that I would mix the FL and FR channels into a stereo wav and pitch shift simultaneously, and this fixed the above effect. So I thought I finally had the correct combination of settings and reencoded the whole thing. It sounded fairly good through AC3Filter, albeit a bit lower than the original (or so it seemed), however when I tried playing it with WinDVD the results were awful. The audio volume went up and down like crazy, especially during music, and so I'm thinking maybe I need to go back to square one.
Does anyone have any thoughts, answers or ideas regarding this issue?
