hi and welcome to the forum,
i take it this DVr-ms is this new container used by windows mediacenteredition, right? if so, this link explains what you can do with the files - albeit in german http://www.xpmce.com/forum/ftopic82701.html
a short summary, in case you do not speak german. supposedly, both Cyberlink PowerDirector and nerov Vision Express 2 can handle those files.
furthermore, afaik the dvr-ms container actually contains mpeg2 content - so if you're lucky, all you have to do is extract the mpeg2 content and the audio from the container and use an apropriate authoring app to create a dvd.
this place looks like a pretty good place to start. http://www.thegreenbutton.com/
in it's downloadsection you'll find tools to extract the mpeg2 content from the dvr-ms file.

Thanks for the site. Alot of reading. I would really enjoy a one click solution that can compress these 4 gig files, preserving quality , so i may place 4 or so files on a sincle dvd.

From what I've read, the latest versions of TmpGENC will do this job, but I have no hands-on experience with the app. setarip_old would be the one to chime in on this one, he has lots of experience with TempG products.

Ok thanks. Hmm.. wonder if I have to be running XP Media Center edition for TmpgEnc to be working with dvr-ms files.
Tried on XP pro and it won't accept dvr-mc as input files? Will contact setarip_old about it. Well he won't accept PM can you direct him to this thread. That would be great, thank you.

The easiest way I have found is to convert the DVR-MS file to MPEG using DVRMSToolBox. Once you have your file in MPEG format use AutoGK (AutoGK will accept this format as input) to convert it to an AVI. A 2 step process, and is the easiest to use in my opinion. It will not work with protected DVR-MS files though. If you have a DivX compatible set-top DVD player, you can copy the AVI to a DVD and play it on your set-top player. Also, as always, it will play on your PC-DVD Player. As a sidenote, I have had AutoGK XviD files successfully play on my set-top player (Yamaha DV-S5750), and these are better quality.
DVRMSToolBox can be found here (http://www.download.com/DVRMSToolbox/3000-11444_4-10444368.html)
