I've been using DVDRB for about 2 months now I think, and have really liked it. I'm using the ReJig transcoder, but am considering upgrading to the inexpensive (~$50) CCE encoder instead.

What I'm wondering about, is if I should upgrade to a more recent version of DVDRB. I've currently got and am using v0.62. It works, and I don't have any problems. So, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" or will I get better quality rebuilds out of a newer version?

I'm not a programmer or anything, I don't understand the majority of the terminology you folks sling around here. So, I have no idea what a lot of the upgrades and newer version explanations mean. I'm just a guy trying to back up my constantly-increasing DVD collection.

I'd appreciate anyone's opinions and input, thanks!

With DVD-RB it's usually a good idea to use the latest version. There is little risk in upgrading. This is especially true if you are using the public releases, since they are much less likely to have a bug introduced.

Starting with v0.65 DVD-RB can backup multi-angle DVDs. Multi-angle DVD's have advanced features like multiple versions of the movie (Theatrical, Directors cut, Extended edition, etc) on one DVD, or the Matrix's "Follow the white rabbit" feature. Earlier versions of DVD-RB can't handle these discs and will refuse to process them if you try.

As far as quality of the output. The visual/audio quality is the same. Compatability should be increased.

Hey, excellent! I've run across that problem with the multi-angle thread thing a bunch of times. I've been rather paranoid about those discs, as they are some of my favorite movies (Matrix, of course, but others). So ok, I will upgrade for this alone.

Perhaps an odd question, but will I need to uninstall/reinstall the newest version of DVDRB, or does it just upgrade? I'm concerned about having to reinstall, and making sure I get all the settings and such correct again - took me a week to get everything up and running properly the first time.

Thanks for the input, the newer version(s) sound great. I love this program, it is really great.

Just extract the new version over the old one it won't overwrite your settings.

And another question already - I see that v67 is available but that v68 should be available within a month. Should I wait for it and just upgrade then, or are the differences between 67 and 68 not going to be noticeable to an average-joe like me?

Thanks for any opinions folks!

No need to wait. By the time v0.68 goes public there may be a newer version released, and so on....

The only major difference is some advancements made in audio stutters that appear on some players. They don't appear to be eliminated yet, but reduced.

Ok, thanks, I'll give that a try. Onward and upward!
