I'm trying to encode a DVD of the Pride & Prejudiced TV show. It appears to be NTSC & Interlaced (based on DVD2AVI and looking at many frames). I've searched for the best settings to use for NTSC Interlaced DVDs and am totally confused by the contents of the many posts I've seen.

Is there a current consensus view or are there many possibilities? What settings do you recommend? Should I just uncheck "Progressive frames" (and "Zigzag scanning order"?) in Encoder-CCE Advanced Settings to do the least violence to the original image?

You have to decide whether to deinterlace or keep the footage interlaced. Particularly for watching the result on a TV set rather than a monitor, I would strongly suggest keeping it interlaced.

As long as you are not intending on doing vertical resizing, eg Widescreen DVD -> letterboxed 4:3 (S)VCD, this will give best results.

There is no need to play with CCE Advanced settings, just select "Keep Interlaced" - the last in the Deinterlace dropdown box (Conversion tab) - and this is all done for you. A bug in previous versions did mean that this setting forced 4:3 output, so if the original is Anamorphic and you wish to retain this, be sure to use the latest version.

That helps. Thanks

By the way, "no deinterlacing" and "keep interlaced" sound confusingly similar. :)
