Hi all,

Im trying to cut a sequence from a film DVD ( say a 20sec clip ) and output it to include in a motion menu im building.

Problem I have is that most of the "DVD Ripping" apps output the .avi, .mpeg files etc suitable for VCD's and SVCD's and even on best quality settings, I find that the output is still poor and too compressed.

Can someone tell me of a program that will cut a sequence from a DVD and output it to either an MPEG or AVI file at the same quality as the original ( I.E. full frame and uncompressed ) just like if Id captured the footage on a DV camcorder etc?

Thanks for any advice,

Nick

First of all you're in the wrong forum for this question. Newbies would have been a much more appropriate place to post it in.

Second, DVD's are not uncompressed. They use MPEG-2 compression which 'only' compresses video 1:20. Thus as you wish to keep as much quality as possible you want an MPEG cutter (you'll find some apps if you click the 'home' button above, and look in the download sections extended area). Note though that MPEG's can only be cut at keyframes and this might not be quite as exact as you'd like.

Thanks for the advice, apologies for posting in the wrong section.

Ill try going down the Mpeg cutter route, then perhaps edit the output in something like premiere in order to get the exact clip im after.

Cheers for the advice, appreicated,

Nick

Hi and welcome to the forum. There are some very important rules (http://forum.doom9.org/forum-rules.htm) here that you need to know when you post at Doom9.

Hakko is correct, the Newbies forum would be a better place to ask this question. I am going to move this thread to the Newbies forum, where hopefully someone will be able to offer you more help.

Good luck!
