Hi there! I've just noticed a problem, making a back up of Shrek 2. Normally I use DVD Shrink to do the job, but I wanted to tried with Nero Recode 2 this time.
Shrek 2 is a short movie, I just wanted to back up only the movie, so it was not nesesary to set any compresion, the final was a 3,6 GB more or less. Everything ok, I ripped the movie using a "On the fly decryption program" like DVD Region+CSS Free, so I used Nero Recode 2 to do the job directly.
Just looking at the movie, in some parts, when you see faces or places, fadeing away, I get some sort of quality lack... Of course, not the same as the original DVD. I don't know if this is bacause the program I used, or something else. I mean, when you choose "No compresion" the final result shouldn't be as good as the original?
I would like to hear some ideas.
Greetings! :)

When setting no compression with DVD Shrink or Nero Recode. The video is just copied and so it is the same as the original.

Well... That is exactly what I thought, but for my eyes is not the same! :D

How does it play when played back on the hard disk (taking out disc problems out of the equation)?

The example I said, was a play back from the HD.

If you truly set the main movie video to NO Compression then the resulting video is the exact same as the original. YOur eyes are deceiving you. Your seeing things.

also its been said many many times, software players may not always show the same footage he exact same. so burn it to dvd-rw and compare it on your tv. you will see it is the same as the original.

That could it be!!
I don't remember, but I think I use the DVD Player from IfoEdit to see the final result... and I am not sure about the quality of that player... unless, Nero Recode 2 or DVD Region+CSS Free did something else.
I will check it out again, with WinDVD.
Greetings!:)

Edit: TheSeeker: I still believe in my eyes!

warning windvd is not immune from differing displays. easy example, open it twice playing the same footage. they wont look the same because the first should try to use overlay(which is allowed only once) and the second is forced to use other(such as software rendering). :)

playing on your dvd player(hardware) should be more reliable. then again there are plenty of threads where 1 dvd player will play a dvd fine where another player wont. :D

I still believe in my eyes!
of course but when you see a difference where the 2 video streams are the same then you have to look at why that may be happening.
