converting to dvd format

I want to convert avi and mpg files to a dvd disc that i can play in my dvd-player on my tv.

Does anyone know a good tutorial or program for doing this?

what exactly you mean by mpg. Mpeg1 and mpeg2 are usable in DVD-VIDEO format. And in my opinion converting mpeg4 (DivX or XviD) to mpeg2 is not worth of it. It is better to reencode original source than mpeg4...
