Hi. Got a USB Hauppage 250 TV capture card and i want to capture some
old VHS musicvideos that i have but i think that the output-quality is poor though i configured the mpeg-settings as optimal as possible. Is there another way to do it? Did tried with Virtualdub but can't get it to work with my TV card. It would be great to just end up with a uncompressed .AVI-file for later frameserving in AviSynth.

have you tried virtualVCR? it's much better suited for capture purposes than virtualdub...

oh and saving uncompressed avi isn't the smartest idea. it's much better to use huffyuv or another lossless codec instead (e.g. mjpeg)

Yes. I tried to get VirtualVCR going without success tough. Must be cause i'm doing something wrong. And how does one apply the huffyuv codec?

I don't actually have one of these, but I don't think you can do what you want.

The WinTV-PVR-250/350 records directly to MPEG using onboard Hardware encoders. Most third party capture applications are looking to attach to a card or driver that supports uncompressed video recordings. Like AVI files. These programs cannot capture video directly using the PVR-250/350.

So ... Since the card only outputs mpeg, your not going to get another app to work with it.

You may well be able to uncompress it, clean it up, and re-compress ... if you don't like the quality. What is the quality issue? IIRC, many people are happy with these devices. I assume you are using usb2.0. If not, that might be a problem. You might want to poke around the Hauppauge website.
