green screen when frameserving from virtual dub

I am using the mainconcept encoder 1.4.1. I have an mpg svcd file that is in pal. I open it in virtualdub and use vdub to change the framerate for ntsc. I then start the frameserver and open the main encoder. It reads all of the file information okay but in the preview the screen is green. I have had this happen before with xvid codecs and xvid avi's. I have never had it happen on an svcd mpeg file. Any ideas how to fix it?

virtualdub doesnt handle mpeg2(svcd) or do you mean virtualdubmod ?

I am using virtualdub 1.5.1 and it opens mpg files as well as avi files. I installed my xvid codec again but did not check the box that said to handle the list of media files it had. That did the trick. I wouldn't have thought that would have effected svcd mpg files.

sorry but virtualdub loads mpeg1 nativly but mpeg2(svcd/dvd) it does not.

i can load svcd(*.m2v)/dvd into virtualdub, as long as i go through the whole dvd2avi, vfapi thing

vfapi is quite "forbidden" for over 2 years now. Head over to the avisynth forum and read about the YV12 process chain.

This will result in better quality encodes and is even faster.

he said it loads svcd mpgs not that he frameserved it to vdub.

yes i know, its still frameserving. just like videoserver(aviwrapper) can be used by DVDx to frameserve to Tmpgenc and CCE, videoserver makes a small fake avi.

It must be modded version of virtual dub but it isn't the vdubmod. Anyway the other xvid codec got rid of the problem.

Please take the time to read the avisynth forum YV12 sticky.

Also you could search for YV12 there for "over 90 days" or whatever the search option was for "all time". We had very long threads about the issue back then which is a little too much to explain in every tiny detail.

The short version: vfape involves colour space conversions (source YV12 -> vfapi YUV2 (or worse: RGB) -> encoder YV12) which are _lossy_. (You get crispier colours when staying in YV12 for the process chain).
Then there is the speed advantage: no colour space conversion. Also the filters work in YV12 where less information is to be used than in (artifical) YUV2 (or worse: RGB). Filtering in YV12 stays closer at the original data, if colour space conversion took place you calculate on interpolated (think about it as dirty colours due to interpolation).

i just use the program to help sync my svcd using virtualdub, and to get tmpgenc to load *.srt file for my dvd rips

Well, the confusion is exactly there: they don't care about what? :)

If you're satisfied and don't care about quality your way is exactly the one to go.

i'm happy with the quality of vcd, unless there's an technique/program that will improve the quality vastly over tmpgenc(anything but dvd2svcd)
