Hi

I am just curious about what your CCE Settings in DVD-Rebuilder are. I want to backup my Star Wars 3 Triology and want to keep german / english audio with the subtitles. So the bitrate will be very low, around 2 - 4 mbit. I just want to hear your recommadations for VBR_Bias and Quality Prec. At the moment I use VBR-Bias 0, because I think VBR is much better than CBR and as I've read in the faq the more I lower VBR_Bias the more I give CCE the option to freerly distribute the bitrate. For Quality_Prec I use 16.

What are your recommandations?

P.S. I Use CCE 2.5 SP

Thats the idea with VBR_bias. Although I don't think it makes much of a difference. Bitrate traces look almost identical between encodes when bias is varried. On the other hand, if does have an effect on your material, a setting of 0 could open the door for bitrate spikes and dreaded freezes.

Anyhow, that's my two cents. There are a few good (and long) threads on the bias and prec settings. Search for those and read.

If you are using really low bitrate, think about a spatial or temporal smoother. Decrease the information content in the image and you will get a "better quality" encode for the same bitrate. It would be a shame to do that on a clean source like Star Wars, but what the hell.

@Numer0bis

Firstly use DVDShrink to cut every audio you don't need in Re-author!
Then use "Set Start/End frames" and cut the Lucasfilm intros and the useless end-titles.

Backup it with NO compression!!

Then in DVD-RB use Options->AVS options->Advanced(expert)Options->Disable "Interlased"->Apply to All(the film is ofcourse Progressive).

(If i were you, i would only keep the English Audio(DD 5.1) and 1 subtitle the German one....you will gain in image quality a lot)

If the Bitrare is 3000Mbits and up use VBR_bias 30(if 2500Mbits use 25 and if 2000Mbits use 20 or less) and as for the Quality_Prec use 12(DVD-RB will translate is as 19 for 2.50) or 16( 25 in 2.50) or change it in the REBUILDER.ECL (with replace all)before encoding ,to the Quality_Prec you want {22(in 2.50) is a good one for Star wars}...
