How can I recover a capture file that was crashed.

Mid-way through my capture, my PC crash and what I have is a avi file that cannot be played on zoom player. Virtualdub also refused to load the file. I have changed the FourCC but still it does not help. Any help from anyone?

I was using Xvid and Virtual VCR.

Thanks. Tried that. It gust gives and I/O error of 131 and freezed.

Also tried Divixrepair. Still does not help.

The closed I come is AVIRepair from http://www.pk3.org/Astro/index.htm?software_utils.htm. I do not understand what can I do when it say "6, Let VirtualDub repair damaged index". Virtual dub gives "This AVI file doesn't have a movie data block (movi)!"

Well if you saved anything and have an avi file it must have been before you crashed or i doubt if you'd have anything.That should be playable as maybe clip001.avi
Is this something that can't be done again,and why not find out why you "crashed" ?

Unfortunately, what I have is not playable... The reason for the crash? Power failure but getting an UPS for my PC would be a bit of an over-kill for me.

I would quit worring how to recover the junk after a cap crash and look into addressing WHY you continue to crash. Is your system unstable, overheating, fragmented HDD, got crap running in background you dont need that snags system resources every so often and causes teh crash. (I have an abit an8 and its guru utility would cause a crash on my system during captures!!)

You may want to get an expert that knows what they are doing with the comp look into making a custom profile for your capture sessions that is dumbed down to prevent this.

For my case, the reson for the crash was b'cos my son kick a perfect shot on my PC.
