Norcent DP 1950 - Help playing MPG files

I just got this stand alone DVD player / Hometheater. I was extremely pleased when I discovered it would play MPG files. However, the player will divide a single MPG into several sections (randomly?) and play them as individual files, pausing in between each one to start the next. Has anyone else run into this problem? Could it be a problem with the encoded MPG, or might the player just not fully support playing these files. It reads a data disc (even some my I/O magic recorder won't!) just like a computer would and will view / play MP3, JPEG, WMA, etc. files. However, it might read a single MPG file as 1- 100 separate files and plays them like they are their own file (thus I get the pause in between as it is reading the next "file"

Can anyone help?
