Freeware avi/mpg joiner?

Is there a freeware video joiner for at least avi and mpg formats? If so, what is the best? If not, what is the best commercial alternative?

don't ask what is best, is against forum rules :sly:

for avi you can use virtualdub
for mpeg i use womble video wizard, but there are free alternatives as Cuttermaran and Mpeg2Schnitt.

mpg: TmpegEnc - not free, but definitely worth the money!
