I'll try to answer from what I've tested with DVP630 (European model of DVP642),

1.> Can it Play Xvid 1.0.2 Encoded Movies?

Yes, try keeping the bitrate below 3000-4000kbps. I normally use the default Quantization of 4 which results in bitrate around 1000-2000kbps.

2.> Can it display Subtitles for Divx and Xvid Movies eg. (.srt , .sub Files)

Yes, .srt (text-based subtitle file). Never tested with .sub. You'll have to manually browse to the .srt and press the Subtitle button before browse to the movie file and press Play.

3.> Can it play Divx and Xvid Encoded Video Stream + AC3 5.1 Audio Streams (AVI)

Yes, I've tested with AC3 5.1, AC3 2.0, MP3 128kbps single and multiple streams. There is an issue with multiple streams sometimes when you select the 2nd stream you can't go back to the first stream (well, you can but you won't hear anything and you have to go back to the 2nd stream or restart playing the file). Haven't tested with the new 1109 firmware yet.

4.> Does it play DVD-R and DVD-RW Formats because on the site it says only DVD+R and DVD+RW

Yes, I never tested it myself but people have reported on www.videohelp.com that it does. Again it depends on the brand of the media and burning speed.

5.> Can someone who has this player post a image of the backside of this player.

I don't have a digital camera. I think you can find it in the manual on www.p4c.philips.com website.

6.> How to exactly burn a Divx / Xvid disc so that i can check this disc at the store where i can purchase , does it support folders so that i can have diffrent samples in diffrent folders.

You can have folders but I would just put them in the root folder it's easier to see. Filename is limited to something 10 or 11 chars don't remember.

I want to test the following samples
1.> Divx 5.11 Video + MP3 Audio
2.> Divx 5.21 Video + MP3 Audio

3.> Divx 5.11 Video + AC3 Audio
4.> Divx 5.21 Video + AC3 Audio

5.> Xvid upto 1.02 Video + MP3 Audio
6.> Xvid upto 1.02 Video + AC3 Audio

7.> Divx 5.11 Video + MP3 Audio + Subs (.srt , .sub)
8.> Divx 5.21 Video + MP3 Audio + Subs (.srt , .sub)

9.> Divx 5.11 Video + AC3 Audio + Subs (.srt , .sub)
10.> Divx 5.21 Video + AC3 Audio + Subs (.srt , .sub)

11.> Xvid upto 1.02 Video + MP3 Audio + Subs (.srt , .sub)
12.> Xvid upto 1.02 Video + AC3 Audio + Subs (.srt , .sub)

Should i create 12 folders and insert this files into it

All should work fine as long as you keep the bitrate around 1000-2000kbps. Burn at 4x for DVD+RW or 8x for DVD+R.

You didn't mention about the source video I assume it's progressive not interlaced.

Please report back your test results.

Well i would like to thanks you for your valuable time

But are you sure since you own DVP-630 (Plz dont take seriously)

i will be creating the samples i have not created yet.

reguarding the .srt support you said that you need to manually browse
the file , is that so that after you select the video (.avi)
the player asks for .srt file or you mention about the subtitle.

folder support is definately there according to you so i can have
diffrent samples in diffrent folders.

and as you said all the 12 samples that i am thinking of testing
on the DVP-642K should work on it.

You didn't mention about the source video I assume it's progressive not interlaced.

what is this exactly some option used for encoding where do we encounter this exactly.
i use Virtual dub , GordianKnot for ripping files and DVD's

Thanks again lordyu

Yes. DVP630 and DVP642 use the same hardware and firmware. The difference is that 630 has SCART output and 642K has karaoke.

You need to tell the player first what is the subtitle file before you play the movie. It doesn't play the subtitle file for you automatically.

Yes but it's not practical. It's awkward to browse especially with the filename length restriction. You can try. But if you don't browse, you can just press the Next button and it'll play files in subfolders in order.

Don't know about GordianKnot. I use FairUse. It's pretty easy and give very good output. As for VirtualDub I just choose XviD codec and press "Load Defaults" thats all.

Depends on your CPU, input (movie's) bitrate, output bitrate, output resolution.
For 2-hour movie it could take up to 9-10 hours for Celeron 1.7GHz or just 3-4 hours for Pentium 4 3.0GHz.

If your source is DVD Video it's normally progressive. You can tell FairUse to do autodetect.

You can find FairUse guide and forums here: www.dvd-guides.com
