Is there a maximum filesize for xvid (or divx) files that will play on a Philips DVD642 when burned to DVD?

If you have more than one avi file, will the player automatically play them all in order?

I've tried 2000GB (2000x1024x1024 bytes) and it played fine throughout but 2048GB didn't (stopped 1-2 min earlier). Tested with DVD+RW on DVP630 (European model of DVP642). Also tested 2100GB burned as UDF filesystem 1.02 stopped earlier as well.

Yes. There is 1 second pause between them. Be careful with filename ordering it's slightly different from that on Windows if you have numbers or special characters. Test with DVD+RW/-RW before you burn to DVD+R/-R.

Great! thanks

By the way, any reason to prefer either +R or -R? The user manual only lists DVD+R, not -R

I heard that Philips advocates +R/+RW. Maybe that's why they don't list -R/-RW. You can check with http://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers for what people have reported about what types and what brands of media each player likes.

I personally prefer plus over minus. According to www.videohelp.com, the number of standalone players that support plus is almost as same as that of those that support minus while the number of burners that support plus is as twice as that of those that support minus although burners nowadays support both so maybe it's down to the price and quality of each brand/model. If you want quality media, you may find that the prices are not much different. But if you want cheap media, I think I've seen -R cheaper than +R.

You can find some good info about DVD media here:
