finally someone at mpeg seems to have realised that we, the consumers, really need an independant certification program that tells us what players can handle what, ensuring real interoperability (one of the big goals of the mpeg-4 standard after all) leaving private certifications, excluding competitors, aside

check out the site of the mpeg-4 logo program here (http://logo.mpegif.org/). there will be a list of certified products. the site currently only displays avc profiles, i hope they expand this to part2 profiles too

I suppose they've learned from the mess in the ASP area. Now if only they'd add certifications for ASP and SP profiles as well, we'd finally see some order in the market.

btw the underlying method for this logo program seems to be the current interoperability testing going on in the mpeg industry forum

seems like philips (already offers an avc dshow decoder), samsung and nvidia also have their hands on aac/avc :)
(8 other companies didnt allow to be mentioned on the participating companies list, who that might be? :D )

seems some products are already listed as being officially compliant to mpeg-4 avc (videosoft/vss, envivio and frauenhofer), have a look here (http://logo.mpegif.org/products.php)

2) register a product
3) download some streams
4) test yourself
5) say that you are compilant

An independet and trusted group, organ(ization), or test lab should certify that you are compilant, i think...

i read Upon sucessful review by MPEGIF your product's status will be changed to Approved and will appear in the public Product Directory so i assume that mpegif checks it themselves

apart from that for testing an encoder you additionally have to Have three manufacturers of Qualified Decoders test your product for each codec in the Encoder Checklist and sign their copy as a test report
