TMPGEnc prob, detail included!

Ok, most of the tutorials I looked at said to do it this way and do this and that but none of them have worked so far. I shall start with details (which everyone loves)

The files I am starting with are:

195-205 megs, 640 x 480, 23.96 FPS, and 44mhz.

I've taken these files and tried to use TMPGEnc, but everytime I output, then use TMPGEnc dvd author to burn them to a dvd I lose some of the stuff around the edges. This is what I believe to be the "TV Safe Area" that is cutting it off.

Now, here are the settings I've been using for TMPGEnc:

DVD
- NTSC
- CBR Mpeg-1 Layer 2 audio(MP2)
- Non-Interlaced
- 1:1 VGA Aspect Ratio (I was told to use this by 3/4 tutorials, should this be changed to the NTSC version? or left as-is?)
- Film Video Contents
- 352 by 480 (The guides said that either would work)
- 2000 kb/s bitrate
and - 384 kb/s audio bit rate

I then just import them into TMPGEnc DVD Author using a standard menu, and then burning with Nero.

Now- which settings could be messing me up?

Any TV has an Overscan-Area, that's normal. If you want to see all of the Video, you have to resize it including an Overscan (Black Borders around the Picture).

Target-Size: 352x480
Center (custom size): 336x464

But be carefull - on some TVs you will get visible black borders around the Picture or at one or to edges and some TVs will still cut of the picture.

Cool, Thanks I'm going to try this tonight and let you know how it works. It wouldn't have mattered to me much if the subtitles (Can't be removed, and wouldn't want to if I could) didn't get cut off and make it hard to understand some of what they're saying.

If I wanted to make the amount of black area around the picture larger, I would just adjust the custom resolution right?

Right, but that's a bit dangerous, maybe the Pic will become too small. And don't forget the MOD8 / MOD16-Rules.

Could you please explain the rule you're speaking of? There is a good chance I know it but under a different name. I may have actually read about it and forgotten by now, but just to be safe I figured I should ask anyways.

To maintain your 4:3 aspect ratio and not lose any of your picture,
in the SETTINGS, ADVANCED, SOURCE ASPECT RATIO select 4:3 display
and VIDEO ARRANGE METHOD select Full Screen, Keep Aspect Ratio.

NOTE: The select source aspect ratio seems to keep resetting on me, so check it one last time before you start encoding.

You did not say how long the running times are for these. Assuming a half-hour tv show, you could always make MPEG-1 (VCD) files and use TMPGEnc DVD Author to make your dvd, you should be able to hold quite a few...
