Was not sure where to which forum to post this but this seems like a good spot. This may have even been posted about before not sure so here it goes anyway.

I have noticed scattered about on the Doom9 forums complaints from people about how slow there their systems is with regards to editing, filtering, encoding video etc… So I thought I would share how I and any Windows XP/2000 user can improve performance significantly for those tasks.

I first created a new user on my machine called Encode and then rebooted and logged on with Encode. Then I went to this site and used their tweak guide:

Videoguys (http://www.videoguys.com/TweaksWINXPVE.html)

Then went here for even more in-depth information about Services and more tewaks:

Black Viper's (http://www.blackviper.com/)

I followed the guides on both sites and tweaked my XP pro by disabling every Service I could even networking Services, stopping every process I could, set my desktop to highest performance, turned off messenger, removed all desktop icons, wallpaper. etc… I did every thing possible to squeeze every byte of memory and every bit of processing power I could out of my machine.

Now when I want to do any encoding\ filtering I just reboot and log in under Encode, take my cable modem off line which will not work any way as I have disabled and networking services. I shut down my software firewall and anit-virus since I am not online they are un-needed and I can do my video stuff at maximum warp!

I also do the same thing for gaming, I like to play online war games so I have another user called Gamer which I have tweaked similarly and just log on under Gamer to get maximum performance for games.

Of course I have a normal user which is what I usually log on with that has limited tweaks uber desktop etc…

Hope this helps some of you
