Does anyone know of a stand-alone player that understands VobSub subtitles?

My Yamaha 550 (Philips 720) displays sub/idx but only if you also got the ifo. It doesn't work with all though, i still can't figure out why.

every dvd player supports vobsubs, as vobsub is the subtitle format used in dvd ;)

Hmm, My Zensonic Z330 (MTK1389FE) does the same thing. I read here http://manual.xboxmediacenter.de/wakka.php?wakka=VobSub that the old VobSub version used to require a .ifo as well as the .idx/.sub. So is this the same sort of .ifo file that comes straight off a DVD, a stripped down version or posibly something different all together.

What I mainly am getting at is - Is there any way to get a .ifo file from the .idx/.sub files so that you can play them on MTK1389 chipset players? Or should I just stick to converting the .idx/.sub into .srt?

I own an elta 8883, which has rather limited subtitle support.

Does anybody know of a modified firmware that allows the player to display Vobsub subtitles, or is that impossible because of the 1MB Flash memory?

cheers, monty
