View Full Version : Standalone compatibilty

Ideas for improving AGK compatibility with standalone players include
1) xvid 1.1 "respect vbv"
2) divx HT
3) burn to DVD rather than CD
4) swap loader parts from a dvd-rom to the SAP (manono post in hardware forum [edit to add link] http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=85433)
5) Encode to a smaller file (for example, a 1 cd encode may not look great on a computer, but it will often be fine on a std def tv)
(there are a bunch of non-AGK options, include encoding svcd or just 1:1 dvd copying)
Am I missing anything to increase SAP playability? Do we enough info to have a view as to which option or combination works?

Hi Richarddd,
Glad you made the summary. :)
The n° 4 may not be explicit, I had to go to the hardware forum myself (maybe you can put the link) read the posts to have the confirmation.
I see nothing else for the summary maybe some details later, I have other problems atm.
OT: My motherboard may be out of order  (using my wife's computer) so I cannot reply to the 1.1 thread atm.
Read you later

@Did
Good luck with your motherboard.
I look foward to reading the results of your 1.1 test.
I'm now using 1.1 and tending towards smaller encodes. So far no stutter problems, but I haven't encoded anything difficult so far. On a SD TV it's hard to tell the difference between low quality encodes (much under 60% compression) and DVDs, at least with the stuff I've tested.

Hi Richardd,
The Xvid 1.1 branch is evoluting. The last cvs release from Celtic_Druid has no VBV checkbox but has the DXN HT PAL profile.
The cvs is usable for regular encode: loose curve, vhq for bframes .. in AGK. Not for VBV encode as there is no checkbox atm.
About the HT PAL it seems to behave as Lenox expected: like the divx profile; with the 4000kbps max bitrate your sap may like that profile a lot. If interested send me a pm as it is, atm, outside AGK.

Isn't the HT version usable with AGK? If so, it seems on topic.
Good to see you posting again.

Hi Richardd,
In the two recent cvs (Nics & Celtic)DXN HT-PAL, HT-NTSC and others are profiles like the "standard" one use by AGK: AS@L5. The differences are found in the level panel (Configure encoder, main settings, checkbox -more- on the right of profile level, level).
For AS@L5, the vbv infos are: max buffer 1833216, max bitrate 8000.
For HT-PAL, the infos are 3142656 and 4000 kbps.
As an amateur dumb (not yet professional!), the first thing I did was change the profile in the encoder, launch AGK and make an encode which was identical to the regular one because AGK just switch back (to my knowledge) to the standard profile: AS@L5
So back to the beginning other profiles does not seems, atm, usable by AGK.

PS: I suppose PAL is for PAL encoding and NTSC for NTSC encoding
