ok im tryin to backup my matrix revolutions ws dvd cuz it got scratched =(
2cd ac3 512 width got me under 75% quality{which is the minimum i accept). for a movie that demands such detail with so many computer special fx, should i trash the idea of makin it 480 width?
if i make it 3cd 640 width the quality comes out 90%, when the quality percentage comes so high?, would
"force sharp mpeg matrix" only cause the quality to suffer? (cuz i heard sharpening a film too much can really mess it up)
thanx in advance to whoever answers me!

Hi-
2 and 3 CD rips with AutoGK will already use the Sharp Matrix. And, no, the Sharp Matrix doesn't cause the quality to suffer.
...should i trash the idea of makin it 480 width?
I'd consider 512*xxx already too low for a widescreen movie. And, personally, I wouldn't mind going 10% or so under 75%. If I were you, I might consider converting the audio to MP3 to free up more bits for the video. Up to you, though.

k so only reason to use 'force sharp mpeg matrix' option is for 1cd, got it...

Hi-
It's not as if it's written in stone. There's no standard, but it's more a matter of personal taste. Personally, I refuse to make any widescreen movie at less than 576 horizontal width, and I really prefer 640, if at all possible. The thing is, you don't have access to the full range of filters in AutoGK, that might help to make some of the more difficult-to-compress movies more compressible. In such cases you might be better off using GKnot or encoding it yourself manually. But since the Matrix movies are new and clean, they shouldn't really need any filtering. Must just be hard to compress, I guess. Too many complex scenes. I wouldn't know, since I've never encoded (or even really watched) them. Maybe someone else that has worked with them has some ideas.

1CD rips are started with soft matrix, >1CD rips are started with sharp matrix, so if you don't see in the logs "switching to soft matrix" for such rips, then sharp one is used.
