I'm trying to rip some DVD's I own so I can access them right from the hard drive, without having to go find the discs. I want to re-encode them though, to either change the bitrate, or just get rid of extra stuff I don't need. The files I have, ripped using Smartripper, will play just fine in PowerDVD, as well as Videostudio 8 (with AC3 pack), however when I try to encode them, the video will either skip about 6 frames at a time, or else jump back approximately 6 frames. The audio though never loses sync, nor does it skip.
Any ideas on what I can do? Does Ulead have to release a patch for this (assuming they ever will), or is there something I can do to the ripped MPEG2 files to "prepare" them for Videostudio processing?
I've tried demuxing the VOB's into the component M2V and AC3 files, but the M2V's still show the exact same skips, at the exact same places.
Here is a 5.25MB, 15s video (http://www.jeff7.com/temp/skip%20demo%20final.mpg) I put together, to show the skipping. It is comprised of two sections, each with its own skipping. The audio and video fade-out and fade-in is the separation. The first skipping occurs at the word "shines", and in the second section, at the word "heart". The skipping is more apparent in the first section than in the second.
