DeNoise filters to remove grain from LaserDisc footage

Hi folx,

sorry if it has been discussed before. Are there any AVISynth denoise filters that remove grain from the footage? I captured a footage from LaserDisc and it looks very grainy.

This is a snapshot from an original Huffyuv2.1 AVI (704x480):

Any help will be appreciated. The interesting thing is that when I plug my LD player to my TV, it look fine. But when I plug it to my capture card, it looks grainy. Although I do boost the sharpness all the way up there in the capture program.

There are also many filters for Virtualdub(xxx) which may be good training wheels for you to get started.

I of course did the search before. But there're lotsa stuff down there. If someone already has the AVISynth script for removing grain that he/she can share it, I would really appreciate it. I did try RemoveGrain.dll, but my VirtualDubMOD just wouldn't start as soon as I copy .dll into AVISynth2.5 directory. Thanks.

Your right, there is a lot of information in the search on this topic. You notice I am the only one to respond to both of your posts and thats because you new here.

This is a generalize topic so you will not get help with our post, but I am the exception because I know what it feels like to be ignored, and you have to ask, why does it happen? It happens because you are not the first to ask, and this is a general question with not a single answer or script.

Learn by doing over and over with the information you found until you are satified with the solution, then post the info so it's in the database for other newbees to beaefit.

This is likely your problem. Boosting the sharpness will only make the grain worse as far as i know. You'd better not do anything and do all the filtering in avisynth later on.
