Just to give you all a heads up - The new DivX Video on Demand (http://vod.divx.com) has been launched. This will allow you to view DivX VOD content on your DivX Certified DVD Players.

hm not talking about the PC-only titles, from my understanding that is simply a 700mb .avi file download service? i wonder how the drm works (with .avi?), cause it seems that a specific file can only be played on a specific hardware player to avoid spreading of it. also it seems dxn offers progressive download (possible with .avi?)
i assume dxn also uses mp3 as audio format for these files?

It's really a download service, but this program allows you to play back these files on any DivX Certified device, which until just recently was not possible. The movies and the downloads are matched, so you can only view your DivX VOD content on that one player.

We do offer progressive download, but then again, you can't progressively download to a CD-R. It is possible to do a progressive download on an AVI; I've seen it done. Although, you do have to discard the old Microsoft way of handling .avi in favor for something else... and this is the reason why it's only really possible using the official DivX Player.

You might be out of luck. I'm going to check with the person to ask.

i assume thats because the drm in each file makes it only playable on the specific player you mentioned when you bought the file (and nowhere else), like comparing itself to the "activation code" of the player

I keep on finding out more. This is the quote from the person at DivX to ask:

You can play the same file on each device as long as each device is registered to the same username._ You only need to burn it to CD once, you don't need to burn a CD for each device._ The authorization is tied to the user account and not the device, so you can play the same content on all of your DivX devices (as long as they have been registered).

I still have yet to register my Philips - I should get right to that.
