AVI_IO is perfect but it is not WDM, which else ?

It seems I have found the perfect solution for my syncing problems: AVI_IO. The software has only a problem: it does not accept WDM and I am limited to 320x288 using standard VFW.

Which other software has good "audio out of sync" solving routines and WDM drivers ?

EDIT: I forgot to mention that I am experimenting with VirtualVCR since october without any success.

I have used VirtualVCR for 5 hour captures with perfect audio sync using ATI's 8500DV and 9200 cards, so your sync problem may be some where else.

The problem starts in the clocks of the capture card and audio card which drifts from their correct values. The resampling routines of VirtualVCR are not able to solve the problem. The author clearly states that this approach does not work for every audio out of sync problem. His resampling approach isn't effective in some conditions which the author should explain.
The only simple fix I have found is to use the AUDIO as master stream as its clock seems far more stable than the video; then I set the new fps in Virtual Dub to match the audio lenght and then I resample everything to 25fps.
I have no other solution. I'am waiting for the evolution of VirtualDUB as the latest version are a "rewite in progress" of the video capture part. Hope I'll be able to bypass the problem and capture from WDM instead of VFW.

Sorry if I make a stupid question.
I know that this ATI device is able to capture analog sources and I understand that you are talking about it, but is it possible to use VirtualVCR to capture DV sources?
(I'm asking you because I've already red that someone, I think in VirtualVCR's forum, mades such version that I've never found)

You'd do far better retrieving DV material using WinDV (http://windv.mourek.cz/) than VirtualVCR.

The solution to set the master stream as AVI has not solved the problem.

BY Now, the only software which was able to solve my "Audio out of sync problem" is AVI_IO. Since it is VFQ based, as it is the current version of VirtualDub, I have taken my decision: purchase another capture board based on chipset BT878.

Hope this will solve all of my problems. I have lost 80 Euros and 1 month of work thanks to my Empire PVR FM board.

I cross my fingers and keep you informed.

There seems to be an alternate approach possible: fixing after capping.

For the Record ...


My setup:

* Windows 98 Gold
* FAT32
* ADS - USB 2.0 Drive Kit - USBX - 804

..and *I am* able to use AVI_IO and DV through Firewire with success !!
..and under VFW driver support, and all this capture to my USB-2 drive :)

And all this, I capture DV from my ADVC-100 and Sony TRV22 cam, through firewire !! I mentioned this on vcdhelp too.


Mind you, I can't help much here, but..

win98gold - under device mgr

* 1394 DV camcorder: "Texas Instrument date: 3-16-2001"
* dvcaqm.sys - v4.10.222 (be sure version num's are the same after the 4)
* vfwwdm32.dll
* vfwwdm.drv - v4.10.222 (be sure version num's are the same after the 4)
* streams.sys - v4.10.222 (be sure version num's are the same after the 4)

Mind you, the above will sometimes change, but within reason. Some ver numbers
will change in a given setup. But that is depending upon what I'm doing. So,
the above is "subject to change".

I can't garantee that the above will work for any other OS above xxGold.
I've searched the web to exhuation. No one has it this working, but me. I'm
the long-star outhere. Its lonely over here.. being the only one DV'ing around
w/ avi_io (and vdub too) but I'd like for others to share in this, if they can :)

I use both avi_io and winDV.. as well as other apps, but mostly winDV
these days.

But, with AVI_IO, it does not use the "Overlay" of the graphics card, where'as winDV does. So, there are two distinct looking video'ness.
One darker than the other. Anyways.. thats not important.

see the vfw

Most of the time I don´t have problems with A/V sinc, but maybe there is another settings in VirtualVCR that can avoid this issue.
At this moment I only have checked the option:
"Resample audio dynamically"
Is there something more that I can do?
