audio menu problems

I followed 2COOL's guide on how to correct the menu language buttons, but it still is not fully working. I got my subtitles changed fine. This is my problem:

No audio menu shows up for me now. I am testing in WinDVD, and usually you can right click and an audio sub menu will be there for you to select the audio tracks available. Well before I edited the ifo, the audio menu was there and had these tracks:
1. English (6ch)
2. French (6ch)
3. Spanish (6ch)
4. English (2ch dir commentary)

The audio streams that I kept on this dvd were 1 and 4 above, the English 6ch and the English dir commentary.

My ifo before doing the 2COOL guide was correct, except that it was showing the dummy audio tracks in the menu like I said above. I just want the audio menu to show this:
1. English
2. English

Right now that audio menu is being greyed out, like it only has one audio track by default. But I can still play the dir commentary, if I go to the dvd menu and click on special features and access it from there. But I want to be able to hit my audio button on my remote (on sony standalone) to change audio tracks.

Can anyone guide me in the right direction? :)

Using a DVD with the same audio attributes like you, I went and did my guide again. I zeroed out my Audio 2 and 3. I don't used PowerDVD but here's my results.

Toggling with audio button, I got Audio 1 and 4.

Selecting these audios gave me...

Audio 1 > English 6ch
Audio 2 > English 6 ch
Audio 3 > English 6 ch
Audio 4 > English commentary 6 ch

Note: The guide (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=46909) used was meant for toggling existing audio streams with your audio button. Due to your player, you may still see your audio 2 & 3. The guide works as plan for me. The only difference is that selecting Audio 2 and 3 give me default audio 1.

As for this,
Right now that audio menu is being greyed out, like it only has one audio track by default.I can only say that you may have your Audio Stream Change PUOP enabled in your PGC.

Thanx for the reply 2COOL...Hrm, I checked to see if I had any PUOPs enabled, but they were all cleared. And it looks as though audio 2 and 3 are zeroed out. I have attached my ifo file, so maybe you can take a look at it to see if you can find something missing.

You may need to designate the menu formally as an "audio menu". PgcEdit can help here. Just find the menu in question, right click on the PGC and then Select Menu Type. Click on Audio Menu and you should be OK.

Not sure you understand what I am asking blutach...I want to be able to switch the audio tracks by hitting the audio button on my remote. I can access both audio tracks from the dvd menu just fine. Right now if I hit the audio button on the remote, the only track that is available is the first one (English -> 6CH). Nothing needs to be messed with in the dvd menu I don't think.

You did say you were looking at this in a software player.

Have you stripped the audio properly? I do this in exclusively in IfoEdit (use VOB Extras) and it works like a charm. After this, the audio button on the remote should show your two streams - English (1/2) and English (2/2).

As a final touch, you may like to reprogram the audio menu by deleting the menu buttons for the stripped streams (I use Menuedit for this - again, works like a charm).

Hrm, I have never done this strip streams before in ifoedit. Which options do I need to choose?

Ok, I did that, and it has done the same thing though. Everything is still being listed, even though only tracks 1 and 4 are good. I can still select 2. French and 3. Spanish, even though those don't exist...Not sure why just the 2 English tracks show up.

Delete nonexisting stream information in PGCEdit. Double click on the VTST of the main movie and set the audio streams between the first and the last to Disabled. Just to be sure, find the "Current domain streams attributes" button on the bottom left of this panel and delete language codes from these streams as well.

erdoke, I started over fresh and did what you said in pgcedit. Now I am back to where I have no audio menu at all...like it's defaulting to English 6CH, and aren't any other streams. But if I go to the bonus features on the dvd menu, and select dir commentary, then it restarts the movie with the dir commentary track enabled.

I want to be able to switch between both audio tracks using the audio button (not the dvd movie menu)...I don't know why I am having this much trouble. I have followed all the guides and advice :/

When I did the guide and used PowerDVD's right click menu, I have Audio 2 and 3 disabled. So, you really can't select those.

I can still select 2. French and 3. Spanish, even though those don't exist...I'm assuming you're referring to your DVD's audio selection menu. Yes, you still can select Audio 2 and 3 but you will get your Audio 1 playing instead. Why, because it's in the DVD specs. If an audio is removed, the player will go through the audio order. It will start from Audio 1, which is usually default, and find the next EXISTING audio in the list. Since, Audios 2 & 3 were removed, the player starts at Audio 1, which exists, and plays that in it's place. If Audio 1 is removed and Audio 2 is kept, then when you select audio 1 in your menu, guess what? Audio 2 plays because it's the next in line that is present.

Still confused?

Not sure why just the 2 English tracks show up.They have to be because you kept them.

Right I do get that, and I think I disabled my 2 and 3 as well, but for some reason I am still able to select them. Yours are greyed out, and that is how I want mine to look, or not to show up at all.

Did you zero out Audios 2 and 3 for all your PGCs? I see you have 5 in VTS_01. It was step 7 in the guide.

Yes, tried that many times. I also tried moving the audio streams around in the ifo (diff order), but that really messed things up, so I started over from scratch...the ifos I sent you have been untouched.

OK, I went and install the current WinDVD 6.0.6.83 trial. With the same IFO I had, this is what I got.

Hmmm...I don't even see any of my audios underneath Audio Menu like I do when I select Subtitle. If I click on Audio Menu, I jump to my DVD Audio selection menu.

Ok, all I have done to the vts_01 ifo is edited the VTS_PGCITI....changed audio stream stream status for 2 and 3 to zero.

Loaded it up in WinDVD, and I get a greyed out audio menu. But like I said, I can still play the director's commentary by going to the root menu, choosing bonus features, and selecting the commentary button. This will restart the movie from the beginning, and play audio stream 4.

According to your VTS_01_0.IFO, you don't have a Audio Menu set. Only a Root Menu.

blutach posted earlier that you needed to set one of your Menu PGCs as an Audio Menu. In IfoEdit, double-click on each Menu Language PGCs in your Overview and preview and when you find your audio menu, remember it. Go to VTSM_PGCI_UT. Scroll down to your menu and set its Menu mask to 133

You can do this in PgcEdit too but since you are in IfoEdit, that's the way to do it.

No PGC menu set to Audio Menu will definitely get it disabled in WinDVD.

Ok, I did that, and now I have exactly what you got...I have an item that says Audio Menu, which is a shortcut to the dvd audio menu where I can select English, French, or Spanish from this menu, but of course I will delete the buttons for tracks 2 and 3. The director's commentary track is only available in the bonus features menu. So I guess this is where I will stop my work on this project, since it looks like this is the best I can do with this dvd.

As well, and as I said before, you may wish to reprogram the audio menu buttons so as to hide the languages which are no longer present.

Just tested on standalone player, and the audio button works perfectly! Guess the problem is WinDVD. Once again, thanx you guys for all your help.

Got kind of a small problem now though..Right after chap3 starts during main movie there is a stutter for a few seconds...What could cause that?

Could you be able to tell by looking at the original dvd ifo, and my final authored ifo?

I have noticed that Chap3 has 3 cells (cell03, cell04, and cell05). Cell03 is only 2 seconds long, so it's a very fast change to cell04.

But I still wasn't able to change audio tracks on the fly in WinDVD like I can on my standalone.

I decided to troubleshoot this stutter I am getting right after chap3 begins. I deleted my vobs, and decided to recompile my video. I did notice that scenarist gave me this warning during the compile:

Warning Cell "VTS1_Title5_PGC5_PG3_C1" has only one VOBU and is connected to Cell "VTS1_Title5_PGC5_PG2_C1" seamlessly. "PGC:<VTS1_Title5_PGC5> (Title:<VTS1_Title5> VTS:<VTS_1>) "
Warning Some DVD players have problems with this limitation.

Not really sure what that means exactly, but could it have anything to do with my stutter?

I got everything working now. I needed to blank out PGC5 in my main movie VTS, so that a scene wouldn't be duplicated. The duplicate scene was causing the stutter. Thanks to jEl for the headsup on how to correct this :)
