View Full Version : Seamless Auto-Activating Buttons

I am interested in creating a menu with buttons that activate upon being highlighted, but would like to add an audio track that plays seamlessly throughout the menu changes. I have read somewhere that this can be done using multiple angles, but would like clarification on how to do so.

I prefer Maestro, but would greatly appreciate any help I can get, regardless of whether it is Maestro or Scenarist-specific.

Thanks.

I've never done this but I'll give it a go:

In a 'normal' menu if you activate a button which will open a new menu item your music will not be seamless. SO to prevent this you could use multiple angles (if possible on menus, like I said I never tried this).

So create all the menus you need. Setup your main menupage as angle 1. Create the other menus that are activated with the buttons as angle 2 through x. When activating a button you have to switch to the corresponding angle. Meanwhile the music will continue playing seamlessly. (although there might be a very slight pause when switching angles)

Unfortunally, you can't have a multi-angle PGC in the language area. The only place multi-angle PGCs are allowed are in a Title area.

So unless you have your menus in a title, it won't work. And having your menus in a title would be a very bad idea for obvious reasons.

ARen't most menus on commercial dvds located in the title area?

/me awaits in the slap in his face for this total lack of knowledge :)

I'll let you off with the slap :D

The menus should always be in the language area of a VTS. Some people put them in the VMG, but I think that's a bad idea, as you can't control everything you should be able to.

In response to the original question, you can't really do it properly. You would have to put the menu(s) in the title area for it to work. The problem then, is the player will treat it as a piece of video and not a menu. So you could in theory, resume back to it from another menu in the language area. Not good.

I would be very interested in hearing from anyone who has come up with usable solution to this problem.

Slightly off topic, but wouldn't it be cool if you could use TFDVDEdit on moving menus to create seemless transitions which are used multiple times. That way you could have all seemless transitions without having to duplicate all the menus again and again. ;)

So you could in theory, resume back to it from another menu in the language area. Not good. That could be restricted per P-UOp's. You can use dummies in VTSM domain to link to the 'menu-titles'. Takes lots of coding.

I can't recommend to put menus into title domain. The menus should always be in the language area of a VTS. Some people put them in the VMG, but I think that's a bad idea, as you can't control everything you should be able to.
a good mix, just anything were it needs to be.

I know some players will overide the UOPs of the Title and Menu buttons, so they can both be activated. No need to use dummies if the 'menu-titles' are in the same VTS, just link straight there. :)
