I'm considering purchasing an Archos Gmini 400 player, according to the archos site it supports 640 x 400 x 30 mpeg4 simple profile. Could someone please explain to me what this exactly means and what settings I need to use so I can do some test encodings to check what sort of quality I can get. I'll most likely be using dvx with xvid.

Well, afaik this means...
- H.263 quantization
- Max. 400kbps
- No B-VOP's
- No QPel
- No GMC

So... my autogk backups wouldn't work with that? Their bitrate is much higher than 400kbps.

Hmm, dunno...
Is there info about the simple profile level ???
EDIT:
I cant find any info about the max. bitrate or the SP level @ their website...
So, I would simply send them a mail and ask for the average/peak bitrate it can play !!!
Bye
