I have some old videos which have a high pitch, kind of tiny sound that's very annoying... Unfortunately, I don't veen knowhow to describe it properly. Would it be against forum rules to post a zipped sample as an attachment?
I have done some video editing, but I'm a newb to doign anything other than changing frequencies and bitrate in audio.
What filters/programs could I use to adjust this?

If the sound is restricted to a certain frequency band, you could use a parametric equalizer to reduce it without harming surrounding frequencies too much.

Thank you, I'm sorry to be dumb, but how what I do that? And with what (hopefully free...) program?

Hey you're not dumb! You just haven't yet been exposed to the stuff I was talking about. That's what this forum is all about, improving one's knowledgebase. :)
For free programs, probably one of the most interesting I've seen lately is called Kristal Sound Engine available free for private and non-commercial use at http://www.kreatives.org/kristal/index.php. It's a multichannel sequencer program that does a lot more than what you need, but my initial tests with it have been very good. It also supports VST plugins, which is great. One good VST plugin for EQ is
the slim slow slider Linear Phase Graphic EQ at
http://www.kvr-vst.com/get/1127.html.
Take some time learning how to use these and then I think you'll have some success with your problem and have fun learning about this stuff in the meantime.
Don't hesitate to ask questions, but as always check the FAQS and use the search function on the forum because many answers are already here.
Good luck!
Steve.
