Greetings,
I just bought Vido ADVD-2023 dvd receiver.. it does not support mpeg-4 playback, but it looks very similary to Xoro HSD-400, which does. Setup screen is similar, controls are similar etc. Is it possible to enable DivX playback on this? Or do they just make same players missing some chips and sell them cheaper?
Thanks,
bond

if the players manual doesnt say that it can play mpeg-4, there is surely no chance to make it play mpeg-4

well i wouldnt be so sure.. if we look at dvd burners for example, there were so many cases where official specs didnt say it was possible to burn -R media for example, or bit set, or make it region free, or do 8x/16x burns, and yet all that was possible with firmware flashing..

Modifying firmware to remove restrictions is possible, which is exactly what people on RPC forum do when changing RPC-1 to RPC-2 firmware, and unlocking rip speed. But adding features and decoding is impossible (ie trying to hack a Pioneer 107 to dual layer)
A simple example would be removing the speed limiter in a Nissan 300ZX- it's a simple job of re-programming the chip, thereby removing the restriction. But trying to increase the engine 300 bhp to 1000 bhp just by new firmware is impossible. You need a new engine :-)

The only way you can be sure is to look inside the player and identify the chip-set...
Cheers
