Hi,

First of all thanks to all the people who have put together so many tools at disposal to make things easy and automated for all of us.

I just finished by 1st DVD backup with couple of hick ups and road blocks.

1) The final DVD size is bigger so I guess I have to redo the encode. How can I specify the DVD size in DIF4U or is it automatically known to DIF4U and can't be changed. Somehow the defaults resulted in a bigger size final DVD. Is there something I can do to bring the size down without re-encode?

2) This DVD no had subtitles but had Closed Captions. I choose that Closed Captions should be kept. Since I cannot burn it to DVD I created a DVD image using Nero 6.6.0.1 to test the DVD anyway using WinDVD 6. When I play with WinDVD the Closed Captions are running like anything. Somehow the timings of closed captions was messed up i.e. there duration in the final DVD is shorter causing them to appear before the actual audio. And as the movie progresses the CC go way out of sync. In the inital couple of minutes one can read the CC of a dialog that will appear 5 to 10 seconds later. Is this a known issue? If not, how can I find out what happened and how can I correct it since I am assuming I have re-encode the disc anyway to bring the size down.

I just don't want to run into the above 2 problem when I re-encode the disc from the begining again.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks,
-Amit

All,

The current version 1.4.0 of DIF4U does not extract the Closed Captions properly. The current version of DIF4U comes with VOBSUB utility based on v1.0.0.6 by Gabest. The latest version of VobSub is version 2.23 which extracts the Closed Captions better than what comes with DIF4U v1.4.0.

I say better because the timecodes on the extracted CC data is still not correct however the latest VobSub extract the text correctly.

Checkout the number 11 Closed Caption. The text data is now extracted correctly.

Hope this helps.

DIF4U doesn't use vobsub, instead it uses vsrip and vsconv, also created by Gabest, the author of vobsub. From what I remember, vsrip and vsconv were created after vobsub 2.23. If someone can coerce him into debugging his app, I'm sure we could all benefit from it. It seems as if he has abandoned it though. He seems to focus on apps that make no difference to DIF4U (video containers and whatnot) now, unfortunately.

I've tried to ask him to fix a couple bugs now but was turned down. :(

@Eyes`Only

Thanks for the reply. Is the application source code available for others to look/fix? Maybe someone else can help.

As a matter of fact, there is. All source code can be found at http://sourceforge.net/projects/guliverkli/

Incidentally, d3s7 has been modifying it and has fixed some bugs. Try his new version, packaged with the latest build of ScenAid and see if that fixes anything. You may want to work from his latest mods so that those bugfixes are included.
