Missing m2v files

I know I am a “Newbie” but I am hoping some of you will hear me out.
I have been trying to get DVD-RB to work for about a month now without errors. I have yet to accomplish this. I was able to use the forums to fix some minor errors I was getting to begin with but one just won’t go away. I have searched the forum and I can’t find anything about missing .m2v files that are apparently my problem. I have tried it with 8 different movies and I get the same error on all of them.

Things I have installed:
Avisynth 2.55
DVD-RB .66PR (Now)w/ special error processing on
CCE Basic (tried Basic and SP 2.67 trials)
dgdecoder.dll (tried MPEG2DEC3)
DVD-Decrypter (file mode)

I don't do any pre or post processing. I like the DVD intact.

For every movie I do at a random percentage or cell it gives me a Buffer Overflow Error #3. The other night I started checking to see if I could tell why I was getting that particular error. I looked at the log to see where it stopped and it always seemed to stop after skipping a segment during the rebuild stage. So I checked the d2vavs folder and sure enough that m2v file corresponding to the skipped segment was missing. The .avs, .flg, and other files of the corresponding name were there but it was the .m2v file that was missing. I looked down the list trying to see if any others were missing and there were about 4 or 5 others. I then looked at other d2vavs folders of movies I have tried and there were .m2vs missing from them too. I decided to check to see if they needed to be there so I loaded the rebuilder.ecl file using CCE and manually encoded those particular files. This time the .m2v files were created. I went back to rebuilder and tried the build and it completed without any problems at all.

I do have to say that the quality is superb but I would like to get it to work as well as everyone else here. I would prefer not to have to manually find and encode all the extra files myself as I would very much like to try the batch processing which as you can see is impossible now.

I have tried everything I know or have read. I tried a complete re-install but still the exact same problem. I would say it could be an encoder error but it does the same with all the trial versions as well.

Anybody know why some .m2v files aren’t being created? PLEASE HELP!!

Thanks for your post, and welcome...

You declared you need some help, but reading your post it seems you have already understood very well what happened in your set up.

I think nobody could explain why in your PC some files were not encoded at all. It's a condition that never happened to me, never reported by other people (I think...) and never should happen in general. Maybe you used (improperly) the stop and restart buttons, but this is not so important: users may do some mistakes. What is important, IMHO, is to ensure in some manner that the encoding process is performed in a reliable way.

I tryied some time ago to put intentionally DVD-RB in very bad conditions (for example cutting parts of the encoded m2v) just for testing its robustness against some unwanted or accidental encoding failures.

I suppose that some little new coding in DVD-RB, or some improvement of the existing code, at the end of the encoding step, for checking:
- that the expected m2v file exist;
- that the number of frames in each one of these files is matching with the source (as generated by the trim function in the avs scripts during the prepare step);
could be, in general, very benefical.

I say this considering the very intensive (and uncommon) usage of the encoder performed by DVD-RB: it may start hundreds of different encoding sessions, from few frames to many tousands. This (the encoding by cells) is a key feature of DVD-RB and it is totally different from the way other applications works.

Please consider your post is the first one of a person reporting CCE is not making its work properly, so very important to understand if the installation/configuration of CCE in your system is ok, and the PC you are using have no stability issues of any type (CPU overheating, memory totally reliable, no overclocking, and so on...)

Have you tried my new installer, if you didn't try it... don't forget to specify the path to your CCE on setup window

but even before that I would full uninstall Avisynth and all versions of CCE and run a registry cleaner... just in case ;)

Do you have eclcce installed. I noticed it was not listed in your setup. If not get it here http://home.t-online.de/home/340044300675/eclcce.zip and install it. Launch it and point it to your cce executable. Then in dvd-rb setup set the cce path to the eclcce executable. shut of your special error processing and give the process another try.

Anybody know of a decent ram tester so I can see if that might be causing my problems? It's kind of logical I guess. I'll check.

also try searching for ultimate boot cd. Its loaded with such diagnostics. Many claim memtest86 won't detect bad memory, but it is holded in high regard among some. Like you said, search around. Your likely OK if your not overclocking. Also not using a prescott cpu with substandard cooling. Good luck!

Would overclocking have that much of an effect on the encoding in DVD-RB in particular? I have a Barton 2500+ oc'ed from 1847 to 2200MHz but it has never caused me problems. I've used DVD2One and numerous other programs w/o any problems whatsoever. I've had it oc'ed for almost a year and I would say I'm a pretty heavy user so I would think that if it caused a problem I would've seen it by now. I'm gonna test it today though and see. For some reason I still think it might be the ram. Memtest86 didn't give me any errors though. I don't know. I will post whenever I find out though.

If you want to verify that you have a genuinely stable overclock, run Prime95 for 24 hours. Not 12, but 24. Not all errors will manifest themselves noticably. This may be a case where it really matters. Anyhow, I really don't think that's the problem here.

I just thought of a quick check... Go back to stock frequency and try again. RAM too!

Well for any of you interested in this post, it seems that DVD-RB is a great tester for system stability that takes minimum time. I ran Prime95 and Memtest (found them in a folder from a long time ago) back when I was checking for stability the first time I oc'ed this baby and it had no problems. Well, for those of you that want a 2hr test to check stability then this is it.

I guess what I am trying to get at is that setting my system back to standard clockrate has allowed DVD-RB to finish 2 movies already with no problems at all.
